The SX4 S-Cross is Suzuki’s attempt to capitalise on the increasingly popular small SUV class. It sits at the lower end of the sector in terms of price but it manages to offer a slightly higher ride height than some rivals, a huge boot and lots of standard equipment. For a small SUV, it’s also good to drive. It’s powerful enough for the S-Cross to feel comfortable in and out of town, but if you want to sprint down a slip road to get up to speed, or overtake in fast moving traffic, it has to be worked hard.
The S-Cross’s steering wheel adjusts both for reach and rake, while every model gets driver’s seat height adjustment, too. The driver’s seat is adjusted manually using levers: one for leg room, one for height and one for the backrest. The dashboard is split into two sections; the upper part containing the radio (or sat-nav if fitted) and the lower, the climate controls. All the buttons are big and clear, so are easy to use on the move. All versions have an armrest. Even very tall people will have enough room in the front seats of an SX4 S-Cross. There’s lots of head- and leg room, even on models with a panoramic sunroof. Just in front of the gearlever is another large cubbyhole, perfect for storing things such as wallets, keys and mobile phones. There’s a decent amount of storage space in the S-Cross’s glovebox, too. The door apertures are tall and wide, so getting in and out of the S-Cross should present few problems, especially so since the seats are quite high.
